Bakersfield Museum of Art Show

Visual Arts Festival opens 9-9-10

September 9 – November 21, 2010
Visual Arts Festival “Vessels”
A wide variety of interesting and compelling artworks will go on display September 9 when the Bakersfield Museum of Art kicks off the annual Visual Arts Small Works Festival.  The exhibits open with a reception on September 9 from 6 – 8 p.m. and awards will be presented at 7 p.m.  The opening is free to members, $10 for non-members. Light appetizers and a no-host bar will be available.
Using a theme of “Vessels,” the Visual Arts Festival ,  is a concept with a broad variety of meanings, said Curator Vikki Cruz.   The artists  worked with a uniform format of 12 x 12 inches or less to explore the depths of the theme.  Over 150 entries were submitted for the competition from which 63 pieces from 44 artists were selected for the exhibition. The exhibition will reveal an array of styles, techniques, mediums and approaches to the theme, Cruz said.

I submitted and had accepted a piece called Open Door and it is “framed” in a rusty kipper can, complete with attached “key.
